Although American Legion Baseball has cancelled its eight regional tournaments and its national tournament this year, the American Legion regular season will be determined by officials in each state in accordance with state guidelines regarding COVID-19. Here’s part of a press release issued by American Legion Baseball on Friday:
“In accordance with the Charter of The American Legion, National Constitution and By-laws, the National Organization does not possess the authority to administer department-level programs or operations. Any determination regarding regular season play within an American Legion department will come from department leadership and/or department baseball committee.
“Departments choosing not to sanction a regular playing season in 2020 will communicate to their teams in as much that the season is canceled and use of The American Legion name, emblem and baseball logo no longer be authorized the remainder of the 2020 calendar year.”
Currently, New Hampshire is planning to have an American Legion season as long as Gov. Chris Sununu deems it safe to play sports this summer. The season could be extended now that the regional deadlines no longer need to be met this year.
