SeaWolves 5, Fisher Cats 3

MANCHESTER — New Hampshire couldn’t match Erie on Sunday afternoon, losing their sixth straight to the SeaWolves in their first home sweep of the season. The Fisher Cats (16-23, 47-61) got out to a 2-0 lead but ultimately fell, 5-3, to the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers, 27-11, 66-41). New Hampshire has now matched their longest losing streak of the season at seven games.

After an 0-for-11 stretch to start the series, Cam Eden took the first pitch from Wilmer Flores over the right field wall and put New Hampshire up, 2-0. Flores is ranked the No. 13 prospect in the Detroit Tigers system by, and Eden’s homer was the first Flores had given up since June 29.

Paxton Schultz started with three shutout innings for New Hampshire, but Erie loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth. Gage Workman hit a soft grounder to the mound, and Schultz made a sliding barehanded play for the force out at home. He struck out the next batter and was one strike away from working out of the jam.

Luis Carpio had other plans. He rifled a 2-2 pitch down the third base line, scoring three runs and moving Erie ahead, 3-2. In the final two games of the series, Erie scored six of their seven runs with runners in scoring position and two outs.

The three runs Schultz allowed in the fourth inning were unearned. He finished with 4.2 innings and four runs, one earned. He walked one batter and struck out one.

Davis Schneider crushed his first triple of the season in the fifth inning. The hit scored Will Robertson and brought New Hampshire within one, 4-3.

Back-to-back doubles in the sixth gave Erie another run of insurance, and they went on to win, 5-3. The Fisher Cats had just one hit in the final four innings.
