Doyle was named a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, two national player of the year awards. He finished his college career with a 16-9 record and a 4.13 ERA. He struck out 317 in 207 innings.
Doyle led Pinkerton Academy to the NHIAA Division I championship in his senior season, when he went 7-2 and struck out 125 batters in 61.2 innings pitched.
Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk, who played at Charlestown High School, remains as the highest selected player in the MLB draft from a New Hampshire high school. He was selected fourth overall by the Boston Red Sox out of the University of New Hampshire in 1967.
The Toronto Blue Jays selected Trinity High School graduate Chris Carpenter, a right-handed pitcher, with the 15th overall pick of the 1993 draft.
Doyle played for Coastal Carolina and the University of Mississippi before transferring to Tennessee.
