Cody Morissette, a 2018 Exeter High School graduate, was promoted from Double-A Pensacola to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. The Jumbo Shrimp are an affiliate of the Miami Marlins and compete in the International League.
Jacksonville will play the first of six straight road games against Worcester tonight.
Morissette, an infielder, hit .232 with 14 extra-base hits, 29 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in 67 games with Pensacola this season.
The Marlins selected Morissette in the second round of the 2021 MLB draft. He was a three-sport athlete at Exeter (baseball, basketball and football) and then played for Boston College before he was drafted.
Morissette led the Exeter High School baseball team to state championships during his junior (2017) and senior (2018) seasons. He hit .434 with a .560 on-base percentage as a senior, and completed his high school career with 99 hits. Morissette also posted a 19-1 record on the mound with a 1.21 ERA during his high school career.
He played American Legion Baseball for Exeter’s Post 32.
