White Sox select Fennell

The Chicago White Sox selected Londonderry High School graduate Connor Fennell, Vanderbilt’s Friday starter during the 2026 season, in the 20th round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday.

It’s unclear if Fennell, a right-handed pitcher, will turn professional or return to the Commodores for his senior season.

Fennell started 15 games in 2026, when he posted a 4.96 ERA. He struck out 102 batters and walked 20 in 85⅓ innings, but he allowed 17 home runs and 15 doubles.

He recorded six quality starts, five of which came in SEC play, and gave up three or fewer runs in 10 of his 15 starts, with his ERA heavily impacted by allowing seven runs against LSU and nine against Texas.

Fennell transferred to Vanderbilt from Dayton in 2024. In 2025, he excelled in a swing role, with a 2.53 ERA in 17 appearances. In 32 appearances for the Commodores over two seasons, Fennell went 10-2 with 186 strikeouts to 31 walks over 138.2 innings.

Fennell had an 8-0 record with 82 strikeouts and a 1.19 ERA in 59 innings as a senior at Londonderry High School. He helped the Lancers win the 2023 Division I championship.
