Yard Goats 6, Fisher Cats 2

MANCHESTER – Right-hander Austin Cates recorded his second quality start on Sunday, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (22-35, 56-68) dropped the series finale to the Hartford Yard Goats (22-35, 61-64) at Delta Dental Stadium, 6-2. Cates punched out four batters and gave up a pair of runs in his second Double-A quality start, his first since May 28 against Somerset.
Following Cates’ exit, Fernando Perez entered in relief and made his first appearance with New Hampshire since May 2. Perez allowed three runs, two earned, in 1-2/3 innings. Right-hander Jonathan Todd fired the final 1-1/3 innings and struck out two.
Hartford needed two pitchers in the nine innings in Sunday’s game. Starter Stu Flesland III fired a quality start against the Cats with six scoreless innings and struck out two. Reliever Fisher Jameson recorded the final three innings and allowed two runs on three hits.

Hartford struck first in the top of the third inning on a two-run homer from left fielder Jared Thomas (2). The Goats added a run on an error in the seventh to make it 3-0.
New Hampshire cut into its deficit in the bottom of the seventh on a solo homer from right fielder Carter Cunningham. The Goats quickly responded with two in the eighth on a balk and sacrifice fly from third baseman Dyan Jorge. In the ninth, a Hartford run crossed on a passed ball and made it a 6-1 game.
Fisher Cats’ third baseman Cutter Coffey ripped an RBI triple in the bottom of the ninth, but Hartford closed out a series win with a 6-2 win.
Following a day off, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats embark on their final road trip of the season. First pitch on Tuesday at the Binghamton Rumble Ponies is slated for 6:07 p.m.. Coverage begins at 5:47 p.m. on the Fisher Cats Radio Network.
