Goulet named Player of the Year

PLYMOUTH – The leading hitter from the Plymouth State University baseball team was among those honored when the Little East Conference (LEC) announced its major awards winners and all-conference teams on Tuesday following a vote of the league’s nine head coaches.

Senior Josh Goulet (Nashua, N.H.) earned the conference’s top honor after being named the LEC Baseball Player of the Year, the first Panther to win the award in program history, while also being named to the All-LEC First Team.

Goulet had a monster senior season, plastering his name all over the PSU record books in the process. He finished the year with a .410 average, within the top-25 in program history, while shattering the school record with 13 home runs, including a record-tying three homer game to kick off the team’s annual Florida trip in early March.

His 13 home runs led the Little East, while he also topped the league with a school record 47 runs batted in. His .806 slugging percentage and 1.000 fielding percentage were both tops in the conference, and he ranked second in runs scored (47), doubles (16), total bases (116) and third in on-base percentage (.492) and stolen bases (24). He ranks among the top-10 in the country in homers (seventh) and slugging (fifth) and is 13th in total bases.

Goulet also established new program records with 14 total bases in a game and season (116), and he reached base in all 37 games this year. He closed the season with a team-high 19-game hitting streak, during which he batted .432 with seven homers, 25 RBI and 25 runs scored, slugging .802 and going 13-for-13 in stolen base attempts.

He mashed left-handed pitching to the tune of a .529 average, while coming up big in clutch situations, hitting .625 with the bases loaded and .706 with a runner on third and less than two out. His 16 two-out RBI were second-most on the team.

He wraps up his career the program leader in runs scored (132) and stolen bases (98).

Under fourth-year head coach Clay Jenkins, Plymouth State finished the season with a 14-23 mark and just missed qualifying for the LEC Tournament after going 5-11 in conference play. The team set multiple season program records, including runs scored (290), home runs (28) and runs batted in (257).
