SNHU wins NCAA opener

When and Where: May 14, 2026 — Uniondale, N.Y. (Mitchel Field)
Score: #25/#3-seed Southern New Hampshire University 11, #6-seed Felician University 5
Records: SNHU 41-12, Felician 33-22
Junior Casey Cumiskey (Milltown, N.J.) homered to tie the program’s single-season record and classmate Jack Davis (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) allowed two hits over 3.1 innings of scoreless relief, as the 25th-ranked and third-seeded Southern New Hampshire University baseball team came from behind to defeat Felician University, 11-5, Thursday afternoon at Molloy University’s Mitchel Field in the opener of the NCAA Division II East Regional II pod.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Felician went ahead on a two-run home run in the top of the third, before Cumiskey tied the record and the game with a two-run shot to left.
- The Golden Falcons moved back in front with three unearned runs in the fourth to go up, 5-2.
- Southern New Hampshire responded in a big way, hanging seven runs on three different Felician pitchers in the home half of the fourth. A two-run double to left-center off the bat of senior JR Bozek (Danville, N.H.) pulled the Penmen within one, before a two-RBI single up the middle from graduate student Marc Cisco (Long Island City, N.Y.) flipped SNHU into the lead for good at 6-5. A trio of bases-loaded walks followed, with Cumiskey, freshman Christian Cepin (Woodside, N.Y.) and junior Jacob Albert (Pelham, N.H.) all collecting an RBI via the free pass to make it 9-5.
- Freshman starter Zak Whitney (Keene, N.H.) encountered a bit of trouble in the sixth, so the Penmen called on Davis with two outs and the bases loaded. He induced an inning-ending fly out, then faced the minimum in the seventh and ninth, while recording a huge strikeout to end the eighth with a runner on third.
- After the crucial Davis punchout, Cepin belted a two-out, two-run homer to left in the bottom of the frame to stretch the SNHU lead to 11-5.
- Cepin (home run, walk, three RBI, two runs) and senior Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.; walk, three runs) were both 2-for-3.
- Cumiskey (home run, two walks, three RBI, run) and Albert (walk, RBI, run) each went 1-for-3.
- Cisco finished 2-for-4 with a walk, double, two RBI and a run scored.
- Bozek was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and a run.
- Whitney (7-2) allowed five runs – two earned – on five hits over five-and-two-thirds innings, while striking out five and walking six.
- Davis collected his second save with two hits over three-and-a-third shutout innings. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, ranked 25th in both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division II Baseball Coaches Poll and the D2 Baseball Top 25, while receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25, has won 29 of the last 33, including six of eight.
- The 41 wins for SNHU are tied for the sixth most in program history with the 2014 and 2018 squads.
- The Penmen improve to 50-28 (.641) in their 13th all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship, including a perfect 5-0 against Felician.
- Since NCAA regional play was split into pods in 2019, SNHU is 14-1 in pod play and has now won 10-in-a-row. Taking into account both pod play and the East Super-Regional, the Penmen are 20-2 going back to the 2021 season (when there was no pod play due to Covid) and 24-4 since 2018.
- SNHU leads the all-time series, 24-7, despite Felician having won four of the previous six and the teams splitting the last 10 meetings. The Golden Falcons were 10-6 winners in Myrtle Beach, S.C., when the teams opened the season back on Feb. 19.
- Cumiskey’s 19th home run of the year and 20th of his career matches Jorge Burgos (2024) for the most home runs in a single season at SNHU.
- Cepin’s homer is the third of his rookie campaign in just 33 at bats.
- Cisco extends his team-best hitting streak to 10 games, while Cumiskey’s reached-base streak now stands at 32.
UP NEXT
- The Penmen take on 23rd-ranked and second-seeded Molloy on Friday (May 15) at noon in an elimination game for the Lions.
