SNHU advances to NCAA tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team earned its 13th selection to the NCAA Championship, claiming the East Region’s No. 3 seed Sunday night when the NCAA Selection Committee announced its field of 56 teams.
SNHU, which received an at-large bid, will head to Uniondale, N.Y., for a three-team East Region pod May 14-16 at Molloy College’s Mitchel Field. Molloy (39-9) is the No. 2 seed in the East Region after capturing its fifth East Coast Conference title in six seasons Saturday. The Penmen (40-12) will play their first game of the double-elimination pod Thursday (11 a.m.) when they take on sixth-seeded Felician University (33-12).
The winner of East Regional II will advance to the May 22-23 East Super-Regional, where it will battle the winner of East Regional I, which is being played at top-seeded Bentley University (39-13), and also features fourth-seeded Wilmington (Del.) University (39-15) and fifth-seeded Goldey-Beacom College (33-22). The team that comes away victorious will punch its ticket to the Division II College World Series at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., from May 29-June 6.
The Penmen, who made 12 straight appearances from 2012-24 (an NCAA Championship was not held in 2020), are 49-28 (.636) lifetime in the NCAA tournament and have won the East Region four of the last five seasons. SNHU has advanced to the World Series six times, capturing regional crowns in 2012, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Southern New Hampshire is 4-0 lifetime against Felician in the NCAA postseason, with three of the four wins coming at Penmen Field. The teams last met in the East Regional back in 2017. This season, the Penmen opened the season with a 10-6 loss to Felician in Myrtle Beach, S.C., back on Feb. 19. SNHU is 7-2 against Molloy in the NCAAs, defeating the Lions to punch their ticket to Cary in 2021, 2022 and 2024. The two teams did not meeting during the regular season.
