Fisher Cats 17, Rumble Ponies 5

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – First baseman Dub Gleed’s career night highlighted a 17-5 win for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (23-37, 57-70) on Thursday at Mirabito Stadium against Binghamton Rumble Ponies (31-29, 58-71). Gleed totaled three hits and became the first Fisher Cats’ hitter to record a six RBI game since Miguel Hiraldo’s six RBI night at Binghamton on August 25, 2023.

New Hampshire laced a season-high 21 hits and eight different batters notched a multi-hit game. Right fielder Carter Cunningham, left fielder Aaron Parker, third baseman Cutter Coffey, and Gleed all homered in the win as the Cats scored 16 runs between the third and sixth inning.

New Hampshire starter Jackson Wentworth (W, 7-8) completed five frames and allowed four earned runs in the Thursday win. Right-hander Alex Amalfi twirled two innings and struck out three hitters. Relievers Jonathan Todd and Yondrei Rojas fired the final two frames. Binghamton starter Will Watson (L, 0-6) was tagged for five runs on seven hits in 2-1/3 innings.

New Hampshire’s offense exploded for five runs in the top of the third inning. Following RBI singles from shortstop Eric Snow and Gleed, Cunningham (9) launched a three-run homer to make it 5-0.

The Fisher Cats added five more runs in the fourth inning. With one out, second baseman JR Freethy doubled and scored on an RBI single from designated hitter Adrian Pinto. Following a walk, Gleed (11) demolished a three-run homer. Left fielder Parker (18) made it back-to-back jacks with his 18th home run of the season, 10-0.

Binghamton battled back in the bottom of the fourth. Second baseman Jamari Baylor’s (1) three-run home run highlighted a four-run frame that made it a 10-4 game.

In the top of the fifth, the Cats added three runs to their total on an RBI single by Pinto and two-run knock from Gleed. Center fielder Victor Arias and catcher Edward Duran added RBIs in the sixth in addition to another run that crossed on a Pinto groundout.

Right fielder JT Benson hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth for the Rumble Ponies. In the top of the eighth, New Hampshire’s Coffey (4) demolished a solo home run which made it 17-5.

New Hampshire and Binghamton continue their six-game series on Friday, September 4, with first pitch slated for 7:00 PM. Right-hander Nolan Perry (0-1, 3.27 ERA) will start for the Fisher Cats, and the Rumble Ponies will counter with right-hander Luke Gabrysh (1-1, 9.35 ERA).
