Rumble Ponies 3, Fisher Cats 1

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Catcher Aaron Parker recorded his team-leading 19th home run, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (23-39, 57-72) dropped their Saturday battle at Mirabito Stadium to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (33-29, 60-71), 3-1. The Fisher Cats fell behind in the bottom of the first and could not overcome the deficit as the offense tallied four hits in the loss.

New Hampshire starter Danny Thompson Jr. (L, 1-3) tossed one inning on Saturday and allowed two runs, one earned, on a pair of hits. Reliever Angel Obando fired three hitless frames and struck out three. Right-hander Fernando Perez struck out a season-high four batters in 2-2/3 innings, and Devereaux Harrison retired four hitters and struck out two.

Binghamton starter R.J. Gordon (W, 5-8) tossed his third consecutive quality start. Gordon allowed one run on three hits and struck out five batters across six innings. Relievers Felipe De La Cruz, Cristofer Gomez, and Douglas Orellana (SV, 4) held New Hampshire scoreless throughout the final three innings.

Binghamton took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With two men on, designated hitter Corey Collins knocked a double to center fielder Victor Arias. Arias misplayed the ball in center, and the error allowed the second run to score as an unearned run on Thompson’s line. In the bottom of the fifth, third baseman Jefferson Rojas (8) recorded a solo homer to give Binghamton a 3-0 lead.

New Hampshire answered in the top of the sixth. With two outs, Parker (19) knocked a solo home run to cut Binghamton’s lead to 3-1 and end the game’s scoring.

New Hampshire and Binghamton finish their six-game series on Sunday, September 6, with first pitch slated for 5:00 PM. Right-hander Austin Cates (1-7, 5.26 ERA) will start for the Fisher Cats, and the Rumble Ponies will counter with Gabe Davis (1-5, 6.89 ERA).
