MANSFIELD, Mass. – Graduate student Jake Walkinshaw (Seymour, Conn.) of the seventh-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was named the Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week for the period ending April 7, the conference office announced Monday.
Walkinshaw, who also earned the accolade Feb. 25, March 11 and March 18, went 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA in a pair of starts during a 5-1 week for the Penmen. Walkinshaw, who held opponents to a .211 batting average, allowed three runs over 16 innings, while striking out 18 and walking three. Walkinshaw gave up two runs on five hits over seven innings, struck out five and walked a pair in Tuesday’s 5-2 victory against in-state rival Franklin Pierce University, before going the distance and relinquishing one run on seven hits, while matching his career high with 13 strikeouts and walking one in Sunday’s 2-1 game-one victory over Le Moyne College.
Through seven starts, Walkinshaw is 5-0 with a 2.30 ERA, after allowing 14 runs on 41 hits in 54-and-two-thirds innings, while striking out 63 and walking 16. He leads the conference in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched, and ranks sixth in strikeouts per game (10.37), seventh in hits and 11th in ERA.
Walkinshaw and the Penmen are back in action Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) when they take on Saint Michael’s College.
