Awards pour in for Goulet

PLYMOUTH – The New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA), in conjunction with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), released the 2019 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region teams and Regional Players of the Year for all eight regions following a vote of members of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) on Tuesday afternoon.

Plymouth State University senior Josh Goulet (Nashua, N.H.), who was honored by D3baseball.com with First Team All-America honors earlier in the day, was selected to the New England All-Region First Team. All-Region first team selections are automatically nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors, which will be announced later this week.

It’s been a busy awards season for the Panthers’ leading hitter. In addition to ABCA All-Region and D3baseball.com All-America honors, he has also garnered D3baseball.com New England Region Player of the Year, D3baseball.com All-New England First Team, Little East Conference (LEC) Player of the Year and All-LEC First Team recognition.

Goulet’s postseason awards are well-deserved following spring in which he put up video game-like numbers. He hit .410 on the season, an average ranking among the top-25 in program history, while slugging a school record 13 home runs to lead the LEC. In March he matched a program record with a three-homer game, while also leading the conference in RBI (47), slugging (.806) and fielding percentage (1.000). He ranked second in the league in runs scored (47), doubles (16), total bases (116) and third in on-base percentage (.492) and stolen bases (24). His home run, slugging and total bases totals all ranked in the top-15 in the nation.

He set new program records with his 47 runs driven in, 14 total bases in a game and season (116), and ends his career as the program leader in runs scored (132) and steals (98). He reached base in all 37 games this year, including a team-high 19-game hitting streak to close the season, during which he batted .432 with seven homers, 25 RBI and 25 runs scored.

Under fourth-year head coach Clay Jenkins, Plymouth State finished the season with a 14-23 mark and just missed qualifying for the LEC Tournament after going 5-11 in conference play. The team set multiple season program records, including runs scored (290), home runs (28) and runs batted in (257).
