Goffstown wins Little League title

A seven-run fifth inning carried the Goffstown All-Stars to an 11-4 victory and a two-game sweep of Portsmouth in the Little League state tournament Sunday night in Manchester.

Goffstown won Saturday’s opener 5-2, and earned a spot in the New England Regional in Bristol, Conn.

Goffstown, which was representing District I, sent 11 batters to the plate and collected six hits in the fifth. Dillon Gaudet and Chase Philibotte each had two-run singles in the inning. Gaudet also had a two-run single in the fourth that helped Goffstown take a 4-3 lead.

Portsmouth, the District II champion, led 3-1 after three innings, but Goffstown scored three runs in the fourth before its seven-run fifth.

It was Goffstown’s third straight state title.
