NEIBL (Varsity)
Weare 5/5, Merrimack 2/0
Weare opened its season by sweeping a doubleheader against Merrimack on Sunday. Nate Innerfield’s single drove in the go-ahead run in Weare’s 5-2 victory in Game 1. Jeff Wagner pitched three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win, and also collected two hits, an RBI and a stolen base. Brady Philibotte went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk, and Trevor Anibal earned a nine-pitch save.
Gunner Hagstom limited Merrimack to one hit in four innings to highlight Weare’s 5-0 victory in a rain-shortened Game 2. Hagstrom also hit an RBI triple, his second triple of the day. Anibal went 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs. Alex Moore pitched a shutout inning of relief and added a hit and a stolen base.
Hudson 8/13, Upper Valley 7/1
Hudson began its NEIBL varsity schedule with a s doubleheader sweep against Upper Valley on Sunday. Jacob Hobart was the star in Game 1, an 8-7 victory. Hobart struck out 10 in six innings, collected two hits and scored three runs, including the game-winning run.
Travis Holbrook had three of Hudson’s 16 hits in Game 2, a 13-1 win that ended early because of the mercy rule. Brady Sima and Isaiah Power each had two hits in the victory.
NEIBL (JV)
Goffstown/Derryfield 18, Souhegan 3 (5 innings)
Souhegan trailed by a run through four innings, but things unraveled in the bottom of the fourth, when Goffstown/Derryfield scored 14 runs in the opener for each team at Allard Park. Maddox McGrath pitched two strong innings for Souhegan, which took a 1-0 lead on a run scored by Matt Canavan. Singles by Souhegan’s Nick Nowak, Carter Leonard and Alex Poulack made it a 4-3 game heading to the bottom of the fourth.
