Merrimack nips Hollis/Brookline

Nick DeMattia’s RBI single in the top of the seventh inning drove in the game’s only run and earned Merrimack a 1-0 triumph over Hollis/Brookline on Friday night in the NEIBL’s Varsity Division.

Evan Roy went 2-for-3 with a double for Merrimack, which received five strong innings on the mound from Mike Grover. Grover allowed three hits and struck out five. Daniel Morin didn’t allow a hit in two innings of relief.

Hollis/Brookline received a double from Elliot Troddyn. Hollis/Brookline starter Ryan Coutu struck out four and didn’t allow a run in three innings. Gavin Knudsen limited Merrimack to two hits over the next three innings.
