Northeast Tides pitcher Tommy Lawrence tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout in an impressive opening-day victory against the Rowley Nor’easters on Tuesday in the North Shore Baseball League.
Lawrence struck out 14 and walked two.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Keagan Calero’s two-out RBI single up the middle plated Zack Clough. Jonathan Dube then knocked home Calero with a double to the left-center field gap.
The Tides added an insurance run in the fifth inning with another clutch two-out hit. This time it was Clough hitting an opposite-field double to right field, which scored Ryan Coleman, who had singled and stole second earlier in the inning.
The Tides will get back on the road for Wednesday’s contest against the Swampscott Sox at Phillips Park. The Tides will send starting pitcher Ethan Imbimbo to the mound and game time is 6 p.m.
