Carmen Zingariello had an exceptional day on the mound and at the plate to help the Portsmouth NEIBL varsity team sweep a doubleheader against Hollis/Brookline on Saturday, 4-1 and 13-7.
Portsmouth 4, Hollis/Brookline 1
Zingariello tossed a complete-game four-hitter, and Tristan Winder collected two hits and scored twice for Portsmouth.
Ryan Coutu and Grant Snyder each had a triple for Hollis/Brookline. Justin Lemos went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Portsmouth 13, Hollis/Brookline 7
Zingariello had three hits and drove in three runs in Game 2. Max Lalime and Damon Chase each added two hits and Winder finished with three RBIs.
Cam Fregeau picked up the win by pitching 3.1 innings of relief. He struck out five. Andrew Bergeron started on the mound for Portsmouth and allowed two hits in 3.2 innings.
NEIBL Varsity Division
Souhegan 4, Durham 3
Bobby Henline tossed five solid innings and Troy Brennan closed out the victory with two innings of relief work as the Sabers took Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader with a walk-off victory at Souhegan High School.
Brennan led the Souhegan offense with two hits, including a double, and drove home the game-winning run with a sharp single to left. Brandon Dufour and Isaiah Gutierrez each added two hits for the Sabers.
Durham 8, Souhegan 7
Souhegan’s Sean Brennan tossed six strong innings and exited with a 7-4 lead, but Durham rallied in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with an 8-7 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
Brennan led the Sabers with three hits, inlcuding two doubles, and a walk. Other key hits came from Jeff Lugo, Reese Colby and Eric Romano.
The loss ended Souhegan’s three-game winning streak and dropped the team’s record to 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the NEIBL.
