The Northeast Tides raised their North Shore Baseball League record to 8-0 by sweeping a doubleheader against the Peabody Champions on Sunday night, 9-3 and 5-0.
Peabody has reached the NSBL finals in 22 of the last 28 years and won the league championship 10 times during that span.
In Game 1 Kevin Gould tossed five shutout innings to earn the win. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out four.
Keagan Calero and Nolan Elmore each had a RBI single in the first inning to help the Tides take a 2-0 lead. The Tides added to that lead when Sam LaChance led off the third with a home run to center. Jared Neikam hit a sacrifice fly later i the inning to make it 4-0.
Northeast added two runs in the fourth on Axel Post’s two-out, two-run single, and two more in the fifth on a two-run double by Calero. Northeast capped the scoring on Neikam’s second hit of the game, which scored Post.
Calero, LaChance, Elmore, Post and Neikam each had multiple hits in the victory.
Matt Bergeron improved his record to 3-0 by throwing six shutout innings for the Tides in Game 2. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out four.
The Tides opened the scoring on an RBI double by Brady Green that scored Jonathan Dube. Northeast added two runs on Max Malila’s infield single and Calero’s double down the right field line.
Northeast closed out the scoring in the third inning when Dube hit a single up the middle, which plated Drew Healey and Elmore.
The Tides will be off until Thursday night when they travel to Beverly’s Cooney Field for a 8 p.m. game encounter with the Recs.
