Exeter Juniors win in eight

Will Simpson pitched seven strong innings to lead the Exeter Post 32 American Legion Baseball Junior team to a 7-6 triumph over Salem in eight innings Wednesday night at Michele Park.

Simpson allowed four runs (two earned) on four hits and struck out six.

Exeter broke a 4-4 tie by scoring three times in the top of the eighth before Salem scored twice in the bottom half of the inning. Salem stranded two runners in the bottom of the eighth.

Seth Butler, Brady Young and Jakob Schwarz scored for Exeter (3-1) in the eighth. Salem led 2-1 until Dylan Cummings hit a two-run triple in the fifth, but Salem tied the game by scoring once in the bottom of the fifth. Each team added a run in the seventh.

Roger Davis collected two hits for Exeter.
