Noah Weeks collected three hits and drove in two runs to help Portsmouth Booma Post win the inaugural American Legion Baseball prep state title by beating Hudson 4-2 in Sunday’s championship game at Gill Stadium.
After Andrew Hudlin allowed two runs on five hits in three innings, Murphy Wall tossed four innings of scoreless relief. Wall surrendered one hit, walked two and struck out one.
It was a 2-2 game until Portsmouth took the lead by scoring once in the fifth. Portsmouth capped the scoring in the sixth.
Hudlin, Wall, Nick Gladu, Will Granger and Ryan Cummings also had hits for Portsmouth, which entered the tournament with a 1-13 record. Including non-league games, Portsmouth completed its season with a 9-14-1 record.
