Tigers sign Malgeri

BOSTON — Northeastern’s Ben Malgeri has signed a deal with the Detroit Tigers after being selected 525th overall in the 18th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. Malgeri was a frequent contributor for the Huskies throughout their historic season, which saw them lift the CAA Championship trophy for the first time in program history.

“Ben was a perfect fit for our team and culture,” Northeastern head coach Mike Glavine said.”He worked very hard and saved the best for last. I’m excited for him to get this professional opportunity.”

“It means the world to me to sign with the Detroit Tigers,” Malgeri said. “I want to thank the Northeastern staff, my teammates and my family for all the support and help to get me to this point. To finally achieve my lifelong dream of playing professional baseball is a crazy feeling, and I couldn’t be more excited to get started.”

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Mageri a Stratham resident, is the third current Husky to be selected in the 2021 Draft, joining teammates Brandon Dufault and Jared Dupere. Dufault signed with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Wednesday.
