THE RUNDOWN

The Saint Anselm College baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to West Chester University by a 16-0 score on Sunday.
The Hawks closed their opening weekend of play with a 0-3 record. The Golden Rams improved to 3-0. Saint Anselm heads to Adelphi University on Feb. 26 and Feb. 27 with a doubleheader slated for each day. Game times are scheduled for noon and 3 p.m. both days.
Freshman Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) started on the mound for the Hawks, making his collegiate debut. Classmate Zachary Abbott (Gloucester, Mass.) made his collegiate debut on the mound in relief.
The Hawks broke through in the hit column when graduate student Salvatore Pezzolla (East Greenbush, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a double, which was followed by a base on balls, drawn by sophomore Nolan Elmore (Brentwood, N.H.). However, two strikeouts and an infield fly got the Golden Rams out of the inning.
West Chester added three runs in its half of the eighth inning and tacked on one more in the ninth, giving them the 16-0 win.
Betty went four innings and allowed six runs on seven hits and struck out four. Sophomore Matthew Michel (Haverhill, Mass.), junior Avery Mosseau (Bedford, N.H.), Abbott, and senior Andy Grygorcewicz (Northampton, Mass.) came on in relief for Saint Anselm.
