MANCHESTER – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (12-16) lost to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets, 10-18), 9-2, Wednesday in the second game of their series this week. The loss snapped the Fisher Cats’ streak of five straight losses by one or two runs.
Binghamton got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Brett Baty, No. 2 prospect in the Mets system, and Ronny Mauricio, No. 3 prospect for the Mets, both homered to deep center field in the frame.
The Rumble Ponies added a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth to take a 7-0 lead.
Binghamton had five extra-base hits in the game, led by Baty who had a homer and two doubles. Baty leads the Eastern League in doubles with 11.
Luis De Los Santos recorded three of New Hampshire’s seven hits. De Los Santos has five multi-hit games this season and is 8-for-20 over his last six games.
Sebastian Espino hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning to put New Hampshire on the board. Espino was on the Rumble Ponies roster when he was in the Mets system in 2020.
