Coaches comment: “The Merrimack Tomahawks are in a rebuilding year after graduating several key seniors from last year’s team. As we enter this season we do have two highly talented juniors who are returning. Eliot Medlock returns this year as potentially one of the best all-around players in the state. Medlock will hold down the shortstop position while chipping in innings on the mound.
Medlock has signed commitment letter to play for Division 1 Bryant College of Rhode Island. Last year Medlock was a Second Team All-State selection and hit .380 with a .450 on base percentage. Solidifying the middle of the infield at second base will be returning starter Garron Brown, who started at second base and had an outstanding year hitting .386 and just under .500 on-base
percentage. The Medlock-and-Brown combination could be one of the best in the state. Returning first baseman Cody Booth will share the first base position and hit just under .350 with a .400 on-base percentage. Anchoring center field position is returning utility player and last year’s team unsung
hero recipient, senior Mike Morin. Morin will be filling the big shoes of Aiden Ponder who is now playing at Plymouth this year. Morin will also be counted on for some innings on the mound. Also returning is senior outfielder Josh Keenan who saw time last year at third base and on the mound. The team is expecting him to fill many positions this year. Behind the dish was last year’s backup catcher, junior Aiden Centrella, who saw minimal time last season but will be sharing the duties with the very talented sophomore Shay Collins. Collins will also be platooning in the outfield. The ace of the team this year will be sophomore Ryan Mainey. Mainey had an outstanding year on the mound last year as a freshman and looks strong so far this spring. Mainey will also see time at first and in the outfield. Other contributing newcomers will be third baseman Yvan Tejada, utility players Jackson Woods and Keegan Ponder. I consider this year as a rebuilding year, but fortunately we do have a solid foundation in that we are returning two highly talented players in Medlock and Brown while returning several players
who have varsity experience.”
