Malgeri off to strong start

Malgeri, a center fielder, was assigned to the West Michigan Whitecaps, Detroit’s High-A affiliate in the Midwest League. He played at Exeter High School and was selected by the Tigers out of Northeastern in the 18th round of the 2021 draft.

Malgeri hit a home run to give West Michigan a 1-0 victory over For Wayne on Thursday, and also homered in Friday’s 8-2 triumph. Through two games Malgeri led the Midwest League with a .500 batting average (3-for-6).

He hit .235 with four home run and 45 RBIs in 116 games (373 at-bats) with the Whitecaps last season. He began his college career at Holy Cross before transferring to Northeastern.
