Sea Dogs 9, Fisher Cats 7

MANCHESTER — The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, were defeated by the Portland Sea Dogs 9-7 at Delta Dental Stadium Tuesday night, dropping their first game of the 2023 season.

Luis De Los Santos continued his strong start to the season. The third baseman drove in two more runs to increase his team lead to eight RBIs on the season. All five of De Los Santos’s hits so far have scored Fisher Cats runners and four of De Los Santos’s five hits have gone for extra bases, including his RBI double in the fifth. His RBI single in the eighth also drove in Martinez from third.

Leo Jimenez RBI double in the ninth pulled New Hampshire within two runs with two outs in the ninth. The Fisher Cats (3-1) had the winning runs on first and second with Damiano Palmegiani at the plate, but Palmegiani flew out to right to end the game.

Steward Berroa picked up his first RBIs of the season with a sac-fly in the third and a solo home run in the eighth down the right-field line. The outfielder’s last multi-RBI performance for the Fisher Cats was on April 12, 2022 against Hartford.

Matthew Lugo led Sea Dogs (4-0) hitters with a game-high four RBIs, hitting a two-run single in the third and a two-run double in the fifth. Left-hander Rio Gomez (1-0) struck out six out of seven Fisher Cats batters faced in a perfect 2.1 innings from the second to the third.

The Fisher Cats continue the six-game homestand against Portland Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. RHP Sem Robberse (0-0, 1.93 ERA) is scheduled to start against RHP Sterling Sharp (0-0) for the Sea Dogs.
