HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With the game in a scoreless deadlock and Southern New Hampshire in search of its first hit of the game in the fifth inning, it recorded it in a big way, as Wouters led off the frame with a solo home run to left. That would open the flood gates as the first of seven straight hits that knocked Saint Anselm starter Quinn MacDonald from the game, including a two-run homer from Valera, and RBI singles from Vargas Segura and Pisano that brought the score to 6-0.
  • SNHU nudged its lead to 7-0 in the sixth when Moreno walked and later scored on a wild pitch.
  • The Hawks made it a game in the seventh, scoring four runs against four different Penmen pitchers to slash their deficit to 7-4.
  • The Penmen grabbed two back in the home half on bases-loaded walks to Valera and Moreno that made it 9-4.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Freshman Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.; run, double, walk, steal) and sophomore Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.; run, double) were both 1-for-3.
  • Senior Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.) went 1-for-4 and scored a run.
  • Sophomore Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) finished 1-for-5 with a run scored and a stolen base. He also finished out the game on the mound, firing a pair of scoreless frames. Risedorf allowed just one hit, while striking out two and walking one.
  • Senior Parker Hansen (Granby, Conn.) was charged with two runs on a hit and a walk in a third of an inning.
  • Freshman Devin Divita (New Hartford, Conn.) relinquished a run on two hits, while striking out one, in a third of an inning.
  • Graduate student Zachary Gitschier (Lowell, Mass.) struck out the only batter he faced to get the Penmen out of the jam in the seventh.
