INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team received a selection to the NCAA Championship for the 12th time, earning the East Region’s No. 1 seed, and will host a three-team pod at Penmen Field on May 16-18, the NCAA Selection Committee announced Sunday night when it released its field of 56 teams.
SNHU, which received an at-large bid, will host regional play for the seventh time, including the third time since 2019 and second straight season. The Penmen (31-17) will play their first game Thursday, May 16 (3 p.m.) when they host the loser of fourth-seeded Thomas Jefferson University (32-15) and fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University (28-18).
The winner of East Regional I will advance to the May 24-25 East Super-Regional, where it will battle the winner of East Regional II, which is being played at second-seeded Molloy University (39-12) and also features third-seeded Post University (28-19), sixth-seeded Goldey-Beacom College (33-19) and the seventh-seeded University of New Haven (29-23). The team that comes away victorious will punch its ticket to the Division II College World Series at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., from June 1-8.
The Penmen, who have made 12 straight appearances (an NCAA Championship was not held in 2020), are 43-26 (.623) lifetime in the NCAA tournament and are the three-time defending East Region Champions. SNHU has advanced to the World Series five times, capturing regional crowns in 2012, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Southern New Hampshire has never met Jefferson in the NCAA postseason and is 5-3 all-time in the tourney versus Franklin Pierce. This season, the Penmen took three of four from the Rams on the road March 3-4 and then swept a three-game set from the Ravens on the road to end the regular season May 3-4.
