Loss eliminates Portsmouth

West Hartford, Conn., scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Portsmouth 6-5 Friday at the American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional, which is being played at Gill Stadium.
The loss eliminated Portsmouth, which went 1-2 in the tournament.
Portsmouth led 4-1 after Elliot Miles scored on an error in the fifth inning, but Connecticut scored four runs in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead. Tim Avery’s single drove in Matt Minckler to tie the game in the top of the seventh before Connecticut scored in the bottom half of the inning.
Avery had two hits and scored twice. Minckler also scored twice.
Minckler scored on a wild pitch to give Portsmouth a 1-0 lead in the first. RBIs from Jake Carlisle and Evan Gaffney made it 3-0 in the first.
