Gasper called up to Boston

BOSTON – Merrimack High School graduate Mickey Gasper has been called up to the major leagues by the Boston Red Sox and will join the team starting Monday night at Fenway Park.

Gasper was named the International League Player of the Week on Monday after going 11-for-19 (.579) with 10 runs scored and three RBI in five games. Gasper started the season in Double-A Portland, but was called up to Worcester on June 6 and hit .401 with 12 doubles, eight home runs, 32 RBI and a 1.179 OPS.

Gasper was drafted in the 27th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by the New York Yankees and made his professional debut that summer in Pulaski. This past winter, the Red Sox selected Gasper in the Rule 5 Draft placed him in Portland. Over 399 career minor league games, Gasper has posted a .276 average and a 1.243 OPS.

Gasper played at Bryant Univerisity from 2015-2018, and helped Bryant win the 2016 Northeast Conference Championship. He appeared in 165 games, finishing his career with a .344 average, 17 home runs, 119 RBI, 127 runs scored, 102 walks and 51 strikeouts. Over his final three years, Gasper hit .392, .342 and .340 and was named the NEC Player of the Year in 2018 after posting a 1.007 OPS, 43 RBI, 59 runs scored and 42 walks.
