Doyle dominates Vanderbilt

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Liam Doyle struck out 12 batters in seven shutout innings to help Tennessee defeat Vanderbilt 3-2 in Friday night’s series opener at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Doyle, a Derry resident, allowed three hits and had no walks in the game. His 12- strikeout performace marked the sixth time this season he has finished with double-digit punchouts, including the third time in SEC play.

Doyle’s 127 strikeouts rank sixth in Tennesse single-season history and are 27 shy of Luke Hochevar’s program record of 154 in 2005.

Doyle, a Pinkerton Academy graduate, is 9-2 with a 2.17 ERA in 74. 2 innings this season.

Londonderry’s Connor Fennell is scheduled to start on the mound for Vanderbilt on Sunday, when the teams wrap up their three-game series. Fennell is 5-0 with a 3.20 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 39.1 innings this season.
