Toscano, Salem advance

Dom Toscano hit two home runs and collected three RBIs to lead 11th-seeded Salem to a 10-0 victory over sixth-seeded Dover on Wednesday in the Division I tournament’s preliminary round.

Toscano hit a solo home run in the second inning and a two-run home run in the fifth.

Aaron Masson pitched five scoreless innings for the Blue Devils (10-10). Masson limited Dover to four hits, struck out seven and walked three. Jack Quinby didn’t allow a hit in a scoreless sixth. The game ended after six innings because of the 10-run rule.

Elias Mercedes added three hits and three RBIs for Salem, which also received three hits from both Kyle Giarusso and Patrick Ross.

Salem will face the Concord/Londonderry winner in Saturday’s quarterfinals. The Crimson Tide and Lancers will meet Thursday.

Dover (12-9) trailed 2-0 through four innings, but Salem scored five runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
