New Hampshire Hardball spoke with two sources who said Exeter High School graduate Ben Malgeri is expected to get called up from Triple-A Toledo and be with the Detroit Tigers when they play the New York Yankees at home Tuesday night.
Malgeri, a 26-year-old outfielder, is hitting .296 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs in 250 at-bats with Toledo this season. He has 74 hits, has scored 47 runs and has stolen eight bases. Malgeri has a .401 on-base percentage and an .897 OPS.
The Tigers selected Malgeri out of Northeastern in the 18th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He was the 525th pick overall.
Malgeri, who grew up in Stratham, helped Exeter win back-to-back NHIAA Division I championships in 2017 and 2018. Exeter beat Bedford in the championship game each year.
He began his collegiate career at Holy Cross.
