MANCHESTER – Dub Gleed slammed his eighth home run, and starter Nolan Perry tossed a hitless outing in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (16-20, 50-53) Thursday win at Delta Dental Stadium against the Portland Sea Dogs (20-16, 55-49), 5-2. Gleed’s sixth-inning home run was the first baseman’s fifth in his last eight contests.
In Perry’s first start since being activated for the injured list, the right-hander struck out four batters in three innings and allowed one walk. Perry has not allowed a run in his first three outings in Double-A.
Gage Stanifer (W, 4-7) followed with four innings of one-run ball in his first relief outing of the season. Relievers Aaron Munson, TJ Brock, and Yondrei Rojas (SV, 3) secured the final six outs of the game.
Sea Dogs starter Hayden Mullins pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed five hits, one earned run, two walks, and eight strikeouts. Reliever, Cooper Adams (L, 8-5) gave up two hits, four earned runs, three walks, and struck out one.
Locked in a 1-1 tie, the Fisher Cats retook the lead. Back-to-back walks by second baseman Eric Snow and left fielder Mathieu Vallee set up a double steal. Freethy walked soon after to load the bases. With runners at second and third, Goodwin popped a sacrifice fly and pushed New Hampshire ahead. The next batter, Gleed (8), launched a three-run homer and made it 5-1.
In the ninth, Portland outfielder Miguel Bleis lined an RBI single, but the Cats were able to hold on to a 5-2 Thursday win.
New Hampshire’s designated hitter J.R. Freethy kicked off the game with a single. Shortstop Nick Goodwin drew a walk and first baseman Gleed reached on an error. With the bases loaded, right fielder Alexis Hernández cracked an RBI single and made it 1-0.
The Sea Dogs tied the game in the sixth inning. With one away, catcher Ronald Rosario walked. Two batters later, Johanfran Garcia laced a double and evened the score at one.
