MANCHESTER — Behind six dominant innings from Yennsy Diaz, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) earned a four-game series split with a 3-1 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (New York Mets) on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
In a game that took two hours, Diaz faced the minimum over six innings, allowing one single to Barrett Barnes before picking him off later in the second. The Blue Jays No. 26 prospect (MLB.com) struck out five batters and walked none in his first Double-A start.
Josh Palacios hit a two-run homer, New Hampshire’s first of the year, to give the Fisher Cats a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chad Spanberger added a two-out RBI double in the seventh to make it 3-0, before Barnes hit a solo home run to cap the scoring at 3-1 in the eighth.
Barnes was the only Rumble Pony with a hit on Sunday. Tayler Saucedo (H, 1) handled the seventh and eighth, while Kirby Snead (S, 1) finished off a perfect ninth to seal the win for New Hampshire.
Forrest Wall went 2-for-4, while Vinny Capra and Kacy Clemens each reached base twice with a walk and a hit.
