- Updated: April 7, 2019
MANCHESTER –Despite a strong debut from New Hampshire’s Zach Logue, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets Double-A affiliate) outlasted the Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) with a 4-2 win in 12 innings on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Logue retired each of the first 15 batters he faced, until Arismedy Alcantara led off the sixth inning with a ground-ball single to center field. Alcantara scored after an infield single and a throwing error, but Logue ended his night with a strikeout. His final line: 6 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 5 K.
The Fisher Cats struck first with an RBI double from Chad Spanberger in the third inning, but Alcantara’s run tied the score at 1-1 in the sixth.
New Hampshire quickly answered back in the bottom half with a double from Nash Knight and an RBI two-bagger from Vinny Capra to make it 2-1. The lead did not last, as Will Toffey tied it at 2-2 with a solo homer in the seventh. The score remained even until the top of the 12th.
Alberto Mineo and Nash Knight each picked up two hits for New Hampshire.
Notes: The Fisher Cats hit five doubles on Saturday night, which is four shy of the franchise record of nine, last achieved in 2010. … New Hampshire went 6-5 in extra innings last year, the first season with the modified rules that start the extra frames with a runner at second base. This was the first time under the new rules that a Fisher Cats game went beyond the 11th inning. … The Fisher Cats will conclude the four-game series with Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Fisher Cats replica championship ring, thanks to Northeast Delta Dental.
