PORTLAND, Maine — Patrick Murphy carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays) to a lopsided 11-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox) Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field.
After retiring 19 of his first 21 batters faced, Murphy surrendered a lead-off single in the seventh but set down the next three hitters to finish his day with seven frames, one hit, one walk and seven strikeouts to earn his first career Double-A win.
The New Hampshire offense staked him to an early 3-0 lead with a trio of runs in the third. Nash Knight and Vinny Capra started the frame with back-to-back home runs — the first time the Fisher Cats have done so this year — then Forrest Wall singled and stole second. Chad Spanberger singled him home later in the inning to put the Fisher Cats up by three.
A five-run fifth put the game out of reach. In that inning, New Hampshire sent 10 men to the dish and scored five runs on five hits, which included RBI doubles from Riley Adams and Brock Lundquist.
The Fisher Cats added three more in the eighth without recording a knock. They worked five walks in the stanza and led 11-0 after seven and a half.
Portland scored its lone run of the game on two hits in the eighth, but that would be all in an 11-1 Fisher Cats triumph.
Notable Performers:
- Murphy’s seven shutout stanzas run the Fisher Cats rotation’s scoreless streak to 17 consecutive innings.
- All nine New Hampshire starters reached bases.
- Knight finished three for four with a walk and ended up a triple shy of the cycle.
