Brock Lundquist had two hits and Vinny Capra drove in two runs with a double to lift the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays Double-A) to a 4-2 win over Reading and a split of Saturday’s doubleheader on Star Wars Night at Delta Dental Stadium.
Game 1 – Reading 2 New Hampshire 0
Reading scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning. Jose Antequera singled and scored on a double by Luke Williams. Alec Bohm plated Williams with a base hit for a 2-0 lead that would carry the Fightin Phils to victory.
New Hampshire’s starter in the first game, Joey Murray (L, 0-1), allowed five hits — four in that decisive frame. He walked two and struck out nine, including five in-a-row in the third and fourth innings. Corey Copping finished with two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
David Parkinson (W, 7-7) worked the first six innings for the Fightin Phils. He allowed four hits, walked one and struck out four. Addison Russ worked around a lead-off single by Kevin Smith (2-for-3) in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the save.
Game 2- New Hampshire 4 Reading 2
The Fisher Cats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Forrest Wall singled and Logan Warmoth and Nash Knight reached on hit-by-pitches. A double by Vinny Capra drove in two runs and Brock Lundquist popped a fly ball to left for an RBI single.
Each team scored a run in the third inning. Mickey Moniak homered for Reading with two outs in the top of the inning and Alberto Mineo doubled home Lundquist in the bottom of the frame after Lundquist was hit-by-a-pitch.
Reading drew to within 4-2 in the top of the fourth inning when Darick Hall tripled to left field and scored on a groundout by Josh Stephen.
William Ouellette worked the first four innings in his first pro start. He allowed four hits, striking out three. Vinny Nittoli (W, 1-2) worked two scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts. Jake Fishman (S, 2) earned the save, striking out the side in the top of the seventh inning. Adonis Medina (L, 6-5) took the loss for Reading.
The Fisher Cats and Fightin Phils conclude the season series on Sunday at 1:35 p.m.
