Nashua drops opener, 1-0

The Nashua Post 124 American Legion team held Lawrence, Mass., to one run Wednesday. Problem was, Nashua failed to score.

Kebler Peralta’s solo home run in the top of the fifth inning propelled Lawrence, the Massachusetts state champion, to a 1-0 victory on the first day of the Northeast Regional at Fitton Field.

Nashua had runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but failed to score.

Nashua starting pitcher Brett Anderson allowed three hits, walked four and struck out six in six innings. Henri Boudreau struck out two in a scoreless seventh.

Lawrence starter Miguel Matos held Nashua to two hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out six. Matos was pulled after he hit Anderson with no outs in the seventh. Jairo Vasquez walked one and struck out two in one inning of relief.

Anderson (single) and Nikolas DiRenzo (double) had Nashua’s hits.

Nashua will continue play in the double-elimination tournament Thursday, when it faces Stamford, Conn. (9:30 a.m.). Cumberland, R.I. beat Stamford 11-1 Wednesday.
