Nashua 14U team eliminated

DEMOPOLIS – West Linn (Oregon) right-hander Max Allen fired a complete-game shutout in a 3-0 win over Nashua on Monday in the final game of pool play at the 2019 Babe Ruth World Series at the Demopolis SportsPlex.

After dropping its first two games, West Linn (2-2) rebounded to win the next two games to advance to the single-elimination championship round. West Linn will face Broomall-Newtown (Penn.) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Allen allowed four hits in seven innings. He walked two and struck out five batters. Allen allowed two hits in the seventh inning, but preserved the shutout when he got Sam Murray to ground out with runners and second and third base to end the game. Allen was named the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game Award winner.

West Linn took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Jack Fillion’s RBI groundout scored Jake Holmes.

Nolan Mederos was equally impressive for Nashua. He worked five innings and allowed one unearned run on three hits with three walks and one strikeout. He was named the Ron Tellefsen Player of the Game Award winner.

West Linn added two insurance runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Ryan VandenBrink ripped a two-run double that scored Aidan Duea and Holmes.

VandenBrink finished 2-for-2 with one double and two RBIs. Holmes went 1-for-2 with two runs and one walk.
