Tides sweep Wings

The Northeast Tides swept an afternoon Sunday doubleheader against the Saugus Wings, winning by scores of 12-1 and 10-0 Sunday.

In game one, Bobby Cliche got the start on the mound for the Tides. He pitched five strong innings and gave up one hit, one run and struck out 11.

Offensively, the Tides received multiple-hit games from Keagan Calero and Alex Schlapak.

Richie Fecteau also joined the multiple-hit parade and led the Tides charge in their seven-run fourth inning punctuated by his home run to right field.

Leadoff hitter, Ryan Coleman reached base in every at-bat and finished with four walks, three runs scored and three stolen bases.

Sam LaChance, Nolan Elmore and Jared Neikam each had a double in the win.

In game two, the Tides received another strong pitching performance, this time by Matt Bergeron who improved to 2-0 on the season.

Bergeron pitched five scoreless innings, giving up two hits and one walk. Bergeron fanned four.

Andrew Dupuis was solid in relief for Northeast, striking out the Saugus side in his one inning of work.

Jordan Gosselin finished 2-3 at the plate with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. Axel Post made some impressive plays at third base, and was also perfect at the plate by going 1-1 with three walks and an RBI single.

LaChance had a double that plated two runners, and Calero followed in the sixth inning by hitting a triple to center.

The Tides next game is Thursday when they travel to North Reading to take on the A’s. Game time is 6 p.m. at North Reading High School. Dupuis is the scheduled starting pitcher for Northeast.
