Malgeri earns weekly honor

Stratham resident Ben Malgeri, a centerfielder from Northeastern, has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Malgeri, who attended Exeter High School, led the Huskies to a sweep over UMass last weekend (18-1, 5-2 and 4-3) by hitting .600 and driving in four runs. He had multiple hits in every game, including a 2-for-4 performance in the opener with two RBIs, and went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader sweep over the Minutemen, with a triple and two RBIs, on Saturday. Malgeri finished with three stolen bases in four attempts over the weekend, and now leads the CAA with 10 this season, 25th in the NCAA.

Malgeri, a junior, leads Northeastern with seven multi-hit games this season and increased his batting average to .316. He is currently riding a four-game hitting streak and the Huskies have won six straight.
