Greenland’s Cal Hewett started in right field for Vanderbilt’s game against Georgia on Thursday night. Hewett went 0 for 1 with a walk in Georgia’s 14-2 victory, which was televised on the SEC Network.
The loss ended Vanderbilt’s nine-game winning streak.
“We didn’t respond very well offensively,” said Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin, a Wolfeboro native. “We left a lot of people on base. They swung the bat well, we swung it (poorly). The score of indicative of what the two teams looked like. There’s not much else you can say about it.”
Hewett, a Greenland resident, had a .331 average, 42 RBIs and scored 59 runs during his three-year high school career. He helped the Clippers win the Division II championship in two of those three seasons.
