New Hampshire Hardball

Team Previews: Winnisquam

Winnisquam Bears

Head coach: Fred Caruso (15th season)
2019 Record: 6-10
2019 Postseason: Lost in first round to Hopkinton
Players with varsity experience: three

Top Returners:

After missing last year because of the pandemic, we have only three players who have seen a varsity pitch: Seniors Philip Nichols and Garret Mango both started as sophomores, and senior Chaz Hibbert saw at-bats in our tournament game. They will all play important roles for us this year. Philip will return as our No. 1 pitcher and shortstop, Garret as our second baseman and leadoff hitter, and Chaz as our catcher. All three will most likely bat somewhere in the top four spots of our lineup.

Top Newcomers:
Everyone else is a relative newcomer. Junior Marcus Korenkiewicz will pitch (he did get four varsity innings as a freshman in 2019) and be in the mix in the outfield. We’re also counting heavily on seniors Noah Pearson (1B/3B/P), Nolen Perrino (3B/SS/OF); Burton Swanson(OF); juniors Kyler Bourdeau (3B/SS/OF), Nate McKinnon (OF); Mark Labonville (1B/OF/P); Kadin Burns (UTIL/P) and Nolan Haskins (1B/OF). Sophomores Anthony Boomer, Ayden Cushing and freshman Zach St. Onge will swing.

Team Outlook/Coaches comment: “There are so many question marks after missing last year. We’re hoping to be competitive and grow as the season progresses. With the open tournament this year, we’re looking to play our best baseball at the end of the season.”
