The Portsmouth Post 6 American Legion baseball team was held to three hits Thursday, but made the most of them.
Portsmouth scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a two-run deficit and defeat Essex Junction, Vt., 3-2, on the second day of the American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional in Worcester, Mass.
Boden Driscoll scored on an error to cut Portsmouth’s deficit in half, and then Myles Sargent delivered a two-run triple that scored Max Lalime and Will Hindle to give Post 6 the lead. Lalime, Sargent and Driscoll had Portsmouth’s hits.
Owen Fox tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Marchall recorded one out to collect the save.
The loss eliminated Essex Junction from the double-elimination tournament. Portsmouth will play the loser of Thursday’s game between Beverly, Mass., and Hamburg, N.Y. on Friday at 9:30 a.m.
