HANOVER — Dartmouth shortstop Tyler Cox was chosen as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Cox is the first Big Green player to earn the honor in nearly three years.
Cox, a sophomore from Valley Glen, Calif., played a key role in both Dartmouth wins over the weekend to help split a four-game series at Gardner-Webb. In the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, he collected two of the Big Green’s three hits and drove in the game’s only run with a sacrifice fly in the 1-0 victory. Later that afternoon, Cox banged out two singles and a double to drive in four runs in an 11-7 triumph. Although Dartmouth lost the final game of the series, 12-5, Cox continued his torrid hitting by going 2-for-3 with two walks and scored a run.
In the field, the product of Harvard-Westlake was flawless at shortstop, handling all 10 of his chances without an error. Cox finished the four games hitting an even .500 (7-for-14) with a run and five RBIs while reaching base at a .579 clip. For the season, he is seventh in the Ivy League with a .370 average, tied for third with 10 hits and tied for second with seven RBIs.
Dartmouth will not play again until March 16 due to winter exams, returning to the field for the Russ-Matt Invitational against Fairfield at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.

Notes: The last Dartmouth player to earn this honor was senior pitcher Nathan Skinner back in his freshman season of 2019 … the last Big Green positional player to receive this award was catcher Bennett McCaskill on April 9, 2018 … since 2010, the Big Green have had more players named Ivy League Rookie of the Week (22) than any other Ancient Eight team (Harvard and Penn are second with 17 apiece).
