HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Penmen scored three times in the bottom of the first inning.  Redshirt sophomore Danniel Rivera (New Britain, Conn.) led off with a walk, and Mercedes singled him over to third.  Henrie grounded out to make it 1-0, then an RBI single by Schwartz and run-scoring double by senior Dakota Mulcay (Goffstown, N.H.) put SNHU up 3-0.
  • Henrie hit his 11th homer of the season with two outs in the fifth and Schwartz followed with a single, scoring on a misplayed fly by Mulcay to extend the lead to 5-0.
  • In the eighth, redshirt freshman Anthony Poole (So. Portland, Maine) reached on an error, followed by walks to senior Ricky Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) and graduate student Idelson Taveras (Lawrence, Mass.).  Rivera’s sac fly produced one run, and Mercedes knocked in Jimenez with a single to right field.
  • Nick Nevens led the Dolphins with two singles.

  • With four hits, Schwartz improved his average to .408 on the season.  Henrie has 61 hits to lead the team, along with 11 homers and a team-best 43 RBI.

UP NEXT

SNHU, the top seed in the Northeast, will take on Southwest top seed Adelphi in a winners bracket game on Friday at Noon.  The Panthers took two-of-three from the Penmen in March when the teams clashed in Garden City for a non-conference series.   Adelphi rallied for an 8-3 win over Assumption in the Thursday’s opener, and the Greyhounds were to take on Le Moyne late Thursday in an elimination game.
