EASTLAKE, Ohio– What started as an ordinary Fireworks Night at Classic Park will likely be remembered as ‘Cody Morissette night,’ as the Florida Marlins’ 2021 second-round draft pick belted three homers to boost Beloit to an 11-1 win over the Lake County Captains on Friday night.
Morissette, a second baseman with the Beloit Sky Carp, blasted a leadoff homer in the first, a two-run blast in the fifth and then another solo shot in the eighth. The Sky Carp rallied for two runs in the third and fourth, followed by a four-run fifth, highlighted by Morrissette’s second longball.
Fittingly, the final out of the game was a groundout to second, where Morissette, an Exeter High School graduate, made the play to put the finishing touches on a career night.
It was Morissette’s first career multi-homer game as a professional. His six RBIs are also a career high. Morissette leads the Sky Carp in both home runs (11) and RBIs (39).
