Junior Michael LaRocca (Vero Beach, Fla.) drove in three runs and graduate student Josh Roberge (Chelmsford, Mass.) allowed just one earned run over five-and-two-thirds, as the No. 6/8 Southern New Hampshire University baseball team opened the season with an 8-2 victory against Post University on Friday evening at Municipal Stadium.

KEY MOMENTS
- Southern New Hampshire snapped a 1-1 tie in the top of the third when Mercedes and Schwartz opened the inning with a single and a double, respectively, before LaRocca came through with a two-run single to right that made it 3-1.
- Post pulled within one in the sixth, with the game staying that way until the Penmen erupted for five in the top of the ninth. Caraher’s RBI triple to center gave SNHU some breathing room, with Rivera’s RBI fielder’s choice and a wild pitching making it 6-2. Schwartz and LaRocca drew bases-loaded walks to cap the scoring.

- Junior Dylan O’Sullivan (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Gabe Passey (Moses Lake, Wash.) both went 0-for-3 with a run and a pair of walks.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, ranked sixth in the Collegiate Baseball Pre-Season NCAA Division II Poll and eighth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division II Top 25, starts the season with a win for the fourth time in the last six years.
- SNHU improves to 9-1 all-time against Post.
